Are You Looking to Strengthen your Marriage?

Are there recurring conflicts that continue to frustrate both you and your spouse? Could you benefit from faith based solutions for today’s relationship issues?

Who came up with the idea of marriage anyway?

The first story in Genesis has the answer. Looking back at the end of each day of creation we read these words, “and God saw that it was good.” Then, after the entire week of creation was completed, God looks over all of His creation and says, “It was very good.” Then some time passed, and one day God looked at something and reacted with these words, “It is Not good. . . .” Now, if you have read the story you know what God was looking at. He was looking at man, more specifically, Adam, being all alone in this world. It was then that God decided to add to His already very good creation. He created the very first married couple. In Genesis 2:18 God put it this way, “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man (Adam) to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” So, as you can see, marriage was God’s idea, His creation, and don’t forget, everything God creates is very good!

Sometimes, however, “a very good” marriage can slide from a very good place to a, let’s say, not so good place. It has happened to many of us, hasn’t it? It should come as no surprise to us, however, because everything that God is for, the enemy is against. That is what Jesus meant when he told some friends one day in John 10:10, “The enemy comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy. . . .” I have experienced some of that stealing, killing, and destroying in my marriage in the past, and maybe you have too.

What if that could be turned around? What if God could replace the stealing, killing, and destroying with receiving, resurrection, and renewal in our marriages? I am convinced that is exactly what God wants to do. Jesus said it best in the last half of John 10:10, “I came that you may have life, and have it abundantly.”
